LEWISTON – Roland “Gerry” Poirier, 65, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 8, at his residence, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston on Nov. 8, 1941, the son of Lionel and Cecile (Labbe) Poirier.

He was educated in the Lewiston school system and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1959.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served until 1968.

He was the owner of L.P. Poirier & Sons Construction Company, having taken over the family business from his father, Lionel, in 1981. The business is currently run by Roland’s sons, Raymond and Scott Poirier.

He married Henriette Morissette Poirier of Wales on June 18, 1966. They had four children, Raymond, Tammy, Scott and Cindy, and aided in raising several more, most notably, Jeffrey Baril and Rodney Plourde.

He was an active member of the American Legion Post 135 of Sabattus, where he served as commander and a member of 40-8. He was past president of the Jacques Cartier Club in Sabattus and a member of the Eagles Club in Lewiston.

He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends. His lobster feed get-togethers were his favorites.

His greatest joys were his 10 grandchildren and his Cadillac.

He is survived by his wife, Henriette Morissette Poirier; two sons, Raymond Poirier and companion, Kristie Berube, of Winthrop, and Scott Poirier of Sabattus; two daughters, Tammy and husband, David Brule, of Sabattus, and Cindy and husband, Marc Dube, of Lewiston; his grandchildren, Corey and Nicole Brule, Kailee Poirier, Zachree Poirier, Cruze Poirier, Stone Poirier, Chase Poirier, Trevor Poirier, and Matthew and Joseph Dube.

He is also survived by his stepmother, Dolores Poirier of Lewiston; one brother, Maurice Poirier and wife, Margaret; one sister, Pearl Roger, of Lewiston; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
