I read about an attempted suicide at Hunter College in New York (Sept. 3) by a college student who is now being expelled from her residence. I think that the college should not expel this girl because she was having problems with her life.

Everyone has problems, and I think suicide is absolutely horrible – it is really sad that someone would do it. Yet, she didn’t die because she called for help herself, so she should be able to stay in school.

The thing that annoys me the most is that the college said she was a threat to other students. She can’t even go into the school to pack up her things. She can only go with a security guard. This girl didn’t try to kill a student. All it says is that she took some Tylenol so she could overdose, and then she called 911 for herself.

They should let her stay in the college, so she isn’t on the street where she isn’t getting the help she needs. Instead, they should help this student out, and provide her with psychiatric help.

I am against college policies that say people can be expelled if they try to commit suicide. It could also be the college’s fault that they are attempting suicide because of the work and stress. Should people really be expelled because they are having life problems?
