I recently read an article on Sept. 10 titled, “Va.Women’s College to admit men in ’07.” I strongly feel that men should be able to attend the college.
How come every time men try to form a men’s club or group, women are up in arms protesting, saying it’s sexist and unfair. But when women try to form a club, it’s considered acceptable and fair. Protesters today are saying no to men coming into the college, and they feel they won’t be able to be “just girls” anymore. But that’s not true at all!
Interim President Ginger Worden said, “Do not, I implore, do not turn your back on this college.” But that’s exactly what most of these students are doing today! There will be plenty of other opportunities for women to be alone together. Also, I think this is a great step the college is taking financially, because their profits will go way up and they won’t have to shut down the college.
Gabrielle Medina, a freshman, said: “I’m sad. I’m really sad. If we can’t reverse this, then I guess I’m going to have to transfer.”
Yes, there will be girls leaving the school, but let’s think about all the men coming in. Sometimes we need to look at the bigger picture.
Sooner or later the college will have to be closed down because of financial issues, if more girls don’t come into the college. Are these women willing to jeopardize that?
