I read an article Sept. 10 titled, “Va. women’s college to admit men in ’07” and I have some thoughts on it.
This article states the majority of the women in this college do not want men to be admitted. One freshman from Puerto Rico, Gabriella Medina, stated, “I’m sad. I’m really sad. If they can’t reverse this, I guess I’m going to transfer.” When the college officials announced their plan to admit men, it made many women at the college furious. They have even been rallying.
I think that this college is doing the right thing. If they don’t do this, the college could go bankrupt or lose money. If college officials let men in, they will gain some money back, and the college can focus on more important issues.
Now, I understand some women think if you go to a college without men, it will keep problems from happening. This is true, but what would you prefer? Would you rather have your college lose money and close, or would you admit men and keep following your dream?
I think women can share their college with men. It is not as big a deal as they think it is.
The women at Randolph-Macon should rethink their priorities, because I think transferring to another college is quite a drastic measure to take just because you have to share your life with men.
