AUBURN – Robert J. Levasseur, 75, formerly of Seville Park, Auburn, died Saturday Nov. 11, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice. He died of a broken heart due to the death of his wife, Marguerite, in January.
He was born in Lewiston on Sept. 10, 1931, the son of Albert and Amanda (Beauchesne) Levasseur. He attended Lewiston schools and later served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Following his military service, he worked for Hahnel Bros. for 20 years as the roofing foreman and later worked for 20 years at Bath Iron Works as a sheet metal worker, until his retirement.
He married his loving wife, Marguerite Fitzgerald, on May 9, 1969. She died on Jan. 29, 2006.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.
He loved to putter around his workshop at the house, where he would fix and paint things.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and his family meant everything to him. He will be sadly missed by all of them.
He is survived by his daughters, Carole Case of Lewiston, and Kathy Aube and her husband, Norm, of Lewiston; his sons, Daniel Levasseur, of Ohio, and Daniel Meara of Florida; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Doris Rodrigue and her husband, Andy, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his two brothers, Thomas and Romeo Levasseur; his sister, Juliette Guay; a brother-in-law, Lucien Guay; and a sister-in-law, Juliette Levasseur.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to Dr. Richard Kappelman, the staff of Marshwood Nursing Home, Dr. Roger Austin, the Hospice House and the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, for all the wonderful care they gave him during his illness.
