BRUNSWICK – Ervin “Bud” Eugene Maynard, 81, of 12 Cluf Bay Road, Brunswick, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Nov. 12. Bud, formerly of Wilton, was surrounded by his family.
He was born in Dexter, on April 9, 1925, to Hollis and Marguerite Maynard.
He graduated from Dexter High School and then served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. Upon his return, he attended the University of Maine at Orono, where he received a degree in civil engineering. He went to work for the Maine Department of Transportation, starting in construction and enjoyed his job until retiring in 1989 as a division engineer serving Division NO.7 covering Oxford, Androscoggin and Franklin counties.
Bud met and married Elsie Erikson in 1951. They would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Nov. 17.
He was an active member of Masonic Lodge 156-15, the Wilton Congregational Church, and the Maine DOT Retirees, as well volunteering for everything from Boy Scouts to the Farmington Fair.
He was a life-long outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with friends at the “Wilton Hilton.” He was an avid golfer upon retirement and enjoyed traveling and trips to New York City to take in shows with his wife, Elsie.
He was also a sports enthusiast who cheered for the Boston Celtics, the Red Sox and the New England Patriots. His favorite pastime was sitting in the bleachers cheering on his three grandsons. He especially enjoyed basketball games at Lincoln Academy and Keene State College.
He was known for his kindness, warmth, generosity and wonderful sense of humor. He was a loyal friend to many and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elsie of Brunswick; sons, Kurt Maynard, and his wife, Patricia, of Nobleboro, Steven Maynard, and his wife, Wendy, of South Portland; grandsons, Erickson John Maynard of Baltimore, Md., Benjamin Maynard of Troy, N.H. and Michael Maynard of South Portland; sister, Rowena Hanson of North Brookfield, Mass.; brother, James Maynard, and his wife, Terry, of Greenville, S.C.
He was predeceased by his older sister, Phyllis Dubay of Dexter.
