HEBRON – Thomas Lie-Nielsen, owner of Lie-Nielsen Toolworks of Warren, will be the featured speaker at Hebron Academy on Wednesday, Nov. 15, as the academy opens the 2006-2007 Entrepreneurship Program Speaker Series.
Lie-Nielsen will discuss “19th Century Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century” during the school’s community meeting from 10:15 to 11 a.m. in the Lepage Lecture Hall in the Treat Science Building. The public is welcomed.
A 1973 graduate of the academy, Lie-Nielsen and his business are featured in the December 2006 issue of Downeast Magazine. He is the son of legendary boatbuilder O. Lie-Nielsen, and grew up in Rockland. After graduating from Hamilton College in 1977 and a stint with GarrettWade, a leading woodworking products sales company, Lie-Nielsen returned to Maine to eventually open his own high-quality hand tool company. His production plant on Route 1 in Warren produces $5 million worth of tools annually.
Lie-Nielsen’s visit to Hebron is sponsored by the academy’s Entrepreneurship Program, a co-curricular activity that teaches students the basics of business leadership, management and planning. Students have the opportunity to interact with successful entrepreneurs, launch for-profit and nonprofit ventures, and participate in business competitions during the spring Entrepreneurial Challenge.
