I couldn’t agree more with Richard Fachtmann’s letter to the editor (Nov. 2).
Believe me, as the mom of a Maine Army soldier, and one that recently returned safely from Iraq, if I had the power to bring home all of our servicemen and women before the sun set today, I would do it in a heartbeat.
Sticking magnetic “Support the Troops” ribbons on our cars at first glance seems superficial. And with some people, that is the extent of their involvement. But I want to remind everyone that some of these same ribbons and stickers are used as fundraisers for our family assistance groups. I sat out in front of a Wal-Mart a few times with our group and sold some of these to the public. We were grateful for all the support we were given.
My car has a magnetic ribbon on it. But not just one. It’s plastered with various other bumper stickers as well. Why do I it? I certainly don’t enjoy having stickers all over my car. I do it in the fervent hope that someone who pulls up in back of me will stop for just a fraction of a second to say a quick prayer that by some miracle all or our men and women will be home by the end of the day. Richard was right – this fiasco needs to stop now.
