PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) – A City Councilor is questioning why a city police officer and his wife used a marked cruiser to travel to Plymouth for a football game.
“I don’t think the city’s vehicles should be out of the city,” said City Councilor Laura Pantelakos. “What privilege does he have that other people don’t?”
Deputy Police Chief Len DiSesa said School Resource Officer Rob Munson was on duty and taxpayers will pay for the gas. He said Munson and his wife made the trip with his supervisors’ permission.
He said Munson adjusted his hours to accompany the team bus so no overtime was incurred. DiSesa said police have accompanied teams to championship games in the past. He said if Portsmouth had won, the cruiser would have led the team bus back with blue lights on.
Portsmouth High lost to Plymouth 35 to 20 in the Division III championship game.
Pantelakos said Munson should have gone to the game on his own time.
