Peru: Pay raises approved
PERU – Selectmen voted to give part-time employees $10 an hour after Road Commissioner David Gammon told the board that he was having a hard time getting help at $9 an hour. Selectman Andy St. Pierre said, “If they are good employees, we need to be fair.”
Gammon said he had put 2,000 yards of sand in the new sand/salt shed, but he is cleaning up the old sand pile before he uses out of the shed.
The board continues to be concerned that people doing building projects before getting a permit.
“We need a policy in place to prevent this,” Selectman Norman DeRoche said.
“The policy is there,” Selectman Secretary Kathy Hussey responded. “It just never has been enforced. People need to know they need to apply for a permit first.”
The board approved holding an election for selectman in January to replace Dennis Thibodeau who recently resigned. Nomination papers will be available until Dec. 8.

Canton: Contract awarded
CANTON – Selectmen awarded the demolition contract for five buildings in the flood plain to Almighty Waste for $49,756. The auction of the buildings will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 at the old municipal building.
Rental fees for the old municipal building, effective Jan. 1, 2007, were set. Canton residents will have a $50 deposit and a $50 rental fee; nonresidents will have a $50 deposit and a $100 rental fee. Group fee is $30.
The Canton Cruisers Relay for Life Team is sponsoring a Holiday Open House from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 18 at the old municipal building. There will be demonstrations of several products, door prizes, memorial balloons and shopping to raise money for the Relay for Life.

Buckfield: Money for defibrillator
BUCKFIELD – Lisa Buck, assistant to the chief of the Buckfield Rescue Department, reported to the Board of Selectmen that the department had received a grant for a defibrillator for Buckfield Junior-Senior High School. The defibrillator is valued at approximately $700 and was awarded through Tri County Emergency Management Agency.
Town Manager Glen Holmes informed the board that he and his road foreman, Phil Savage, have developed a list for medium to large projects. Daily reports are to be turned in to the office, and Holmes will review the work with the Savage weekly. The work will be entered into the computer to monitor progress on the project list.
Holmes said he had inspected the new ambulance, which arrived in Buckfield this week. He said he plans to have an open house for the public so people can see the new addition to the Buckfield Rescue Department.
He reported there had been seven instances where two ambulances were called for and the town was unable to accommodate. Also, the town has been unable to provide an ambulance for football games. That will change with the new addition.
Charles Berg introduced a new microphone which can be picked by those with hearing aids at public meetings.
