Thinking back on the just completed election season, I have several concerns. We listened to a lot of rhetoric about cutting spending, government waste, the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, having the highest taxes in the nation, etc.
However, those same candidates spent millions of dollars attempting to get elected. They bored me with political ads on television. They called my home eight times on Saturday and Sunday with canned messages, and they littered the beautiful countryside of Maine with their election signs.
Shame on them.
To top it all off, some haven’t even bothered to pick up after themselves. On behalf of the voters of Maine, I would ask those candidates to please collect all their signs and take care of them.
Somehow, people have forgotten what elected officials are supposed to stand for: representing the people who elected them. It seems that the only thing of importance is getting elected.
