I was very disappointed in the Sun Journal’s choice of a front page design the day after Election Day. It seems a choice was made that day to make a very vocal editorial statement.

No to the Taxpayer Bill of Rights was clear, but it seemed to also say, by way of the photo of our newly re-elected governor, as a child would to something not liked: “No.”

In doing so, the Sun Journal exceeded the privileges and grace of anything but the editorial page.

Regardless of the story, the imaging was powerful. The Sun Journal took the stand that it was clearly not supporting John Baldacci for governor.

Did the editorial board blame the wind for the actions that led to the non-endorsement of anyone?

The voters voted, and the Sun Journal did not honor that. Across America, most were gracious. The Sun Journal was really not. The decision may impact others, and that is wrong. Swaying people after the fact is not right. The paper could have honored the voters.

If I were to judge the paper by that day alone, I would not read the paper.

Shame.
