AUBURN – Eveline T. Marichal, 79, of 68 Boston Ave., Lewiston, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Clover Manor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the last two months.
She was born in Lewiston on June 21, 1927, the daughter of Alphonse and Adelia Paquette Bedard. Educated locally, she graduated from Lewiston High School in 1946, and went on to study at the Montreal Music Conservatory.
On April 19, 1952, she was married to her beloved husband, Andre Marichal in the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. She was a talented singer, and grew up one of 14 children in a very musically gifted family, who often performed together locally as “The Bedard Family.”
During the 1950s, she had a Sunday radio program on WCOU known simply as “Eveline Sings,” and for many years performed at weddings and in the choir at Holy Cross Church.
Besides her musical gifts, she was a talented seamstress and loved to knit, often donating her mittens to local charities. A member of Holy Cross Church, she also belonged to Marchandes de Bonheur.
Survivors include her husband of Lewiston; three sons, Michel, and wife, Jane, of Appleton, Wis., Paul, and wife, Brenda, of Lunenburg, Mass. and Claude, and wife, Rolinda, of Lewiston; a daughter, Suzanne, and husband, John Lussier, of Lewiston; a sister, Cecile Finley of Auburn; seven grandchildren, Eric Marichal, Sheena Marichal, Heather Marichal, Justin Lussier, Katherine Marichal, Marissa Lussier and Michael Marichal; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by five brothers, Roland, Romeo, Armand, Marcel, and Fernand; and seven sisters, Annette, Yvonne, Lucienne, Sister Germaine, Blanche, Marguerite Bedard and Eva Simoneau.
The family would like to thank all of her caregivers, especially Dr. David Dettman and the staffs of Clover Manor and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
