Your investigation of school security felt mean-spirited to me. Was your first motivation to look at this issue carefully or was it to find something for your front page that would attract Sunday readership?

Your points were well taken and have already resulted in increased security, but why the sensational, finger pointing, ‘gotcha’ format? You could have given your feedback more quietly, but equally effectively, by simply sending your findings to all the superintendents with some sort of summary article in the paper.

I am a psychologist and have worked in SAD 9 and other districts for more than 25 years. From this perspective, it saddens me that along with your criticism, you did not acknowledge even briefly the dedication of our principals, other administrators, teachers, support staff, and volunteers. These people give thousands of hours of informed services year round because of their love of young people and learning and teaching.
