LEWISTON – Mary Vlacheas, 55, of 6 Heathwood Lane, Lewiston, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Lowell, Mass., on Nov. 29, 1950, the daughter of Spero and Jennie Kaldis Vlacheas. Her family moved to Auburn when she was an infant, and she attended local schools, graduating from Edward Little High School, Class of 1969, and later from the Auburn Maine School of Commerce.
She was employed at the Gardiner Shoe Co. from 1970 to 1975, and then went to work as a customer service representative and licensed insurance agent at the Dunlap Agency until 2005, when she became a customer service representative in the construction loan department of TD Banknorth.
An avid reader, she also loved to travel, taking several trips around the United States to the Canadian Rockies and to Europe, visiting Ireland, Wales, England, Greece and Turkey. An active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, she served on the church council and worked on many church festivals. Though she had none of her own, she adored children, and they adored her.
She is survived by her sister, Paula, and husband, John Stass, of Lewiston; a special godson, Alex Rivet of Lewiston; and many, many friends.
