JAY – A tractor-trailer hooked a cable wire where the lines crossed the street at the intersection of Bryant Drive and Pine Woods Road Wednesday and ended up ripping off the utility pole at the base.
The intersection is about a half-mile behind the Jay Car Wash off Route 4, Livermore Falls police officer Maurice Drouin said.
Livermore Falls police assisted Jay because Jay police were tied up with an accident of their own.
The wires got caught on the box trailer and the driver, Guy Carroll, 43, of Windham, didn’t realize it until the pole was snapped off, Drouin said.
Carroll was driving the truck owned by Land Air Express and was making a delivery in the area, he said.
The cable wires had landed on the truck, he said, but the electrical transfer had blown so there was no electricity to that pole.
Wires were strewn across the road, he said.
Central Maine Power Co. arrived on the scene and quickly removed the wires.
Jay and Livermore Falls firefighters did traffic control as CMP worked on the wires.
