LEEDS – Drivers using Route 219 in Leeds should allow some extra time this evening through Monday morning, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

“We’re going to be closing Foss Bridge, which carries Route 219 over the Dead River in Leeds just east of the intersection of Route 219 and the Campbell Road, explains Craig Hurd, Maine DOT’s construction manager for the project.

“We plan to close the road from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20. During the closure traffic will follow a marked detour using the section of Route 106 south of Route 219, the Church Hill Road and North Road, a distance of about seven miles. It’s the same detour we used during a closure last May and will be clearly marked,” Hurd said.

The closure and associated work are a part of a $2.2 million Maine DOT contract with Wyman and Simpson of Richmond, to build a new bridge to replace the existing structure.
