Auburn – Lawrence “Rick” Despres, 66, of Lorelie Drive, Sabattus, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Hospice House after a prolonged struggle with cardiac disease.

He was born in Jay on Dec. 4, 1939, the only child of Lawrence and Emilienne (Deshaies) Despres. He resided in Livermore Falls, with his family until 1990, at which time they moved to Lewiston. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, attaining the 4th Degree.

Rick was an entrepreneur all his life. He was involved in many different business endeavors, including several rental properties. He and his wife were also involved in foster care for developmentally challenged individuals.

He was a caring and generous man, particularly to those less fortunate than himself. He took priority in his family and experienced the most happiness when surrounded by his children and grandchildren, who he insisted call him Pepére. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to jazz, watching old movies and was a passionate yard-saler who loved collecting interesting finds from local dumps.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lois Despres of Sabattus; sons, Scott Despres, and his wife, Kathy, of Fayette and Jeffrey Despres, and wife, Heather Bowman, of Brunswick; daughter, Tracey Despres of Sabattus; sisters-in-law, Joan Myhaver, Diana Pease; brother-in-law, Stanley Cilley; grandchildren, Hannah, Abigail, Grace, Delaney, Kirah, Evey, Izak and Phoenix.

He was predeceased by his parents.

The family would like to thank the Hospice House for all the wonderful care given to Rick during his stay.
