RANGELEY – Lucille H. Richard, 79, of Main Street, Rangeley, died peacefully in her sleep at home during the early morning hours of Wednesday, Nov. 15.

She was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Rangeley, a daughter of John and Dorothy (Brown) Haley. She was educated in Rangeley schools and at Bliss College.

She was a devoted wife and mother and was a “stay-at-home mom” until her sons were grown; she later was employed at a variety of local businesses. In her children’s youth, she served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts.

She was a devoted christian woman and was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, where she served for many years as treasurer of the Episcopal Church Women’s Group. She was also a longtime volunteer at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was one of the original members of the Rangeley Giving Tree and also served as secretary for the Logging Museum.

Her favorite pastimes included playing bingo and the lottery. She always enjoyed being around children and was well-known for the many outfits and accessories that she knit for them and for their dolls.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Rodney Richard Sr., of Rangeley; three sons, Rodney Richard Jr., and his wife, Lenita, of Pownal, Steve Richard and John Richard, both of Rangeley; six sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Millbury, and her husband, Donald, of Rangeley Plt., Virginia “Kit” White, and her husband, Ralph, of Dallas Plt., Beverly “Becky” Hill, and her husband, Richard, of Sandy River Plt., Isabel Stewart of Georgia, Marjorie Mathys, and her husband, Charles, of Westood, Mass. and Naples, Fla. and Elaine Moody, and her husband, Robert, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; several nieces and nephews; and two very special friends, whom she thought of like grandchildren, Meredith and David Hunter of Milton, Mass.

She was predeceased by her folks; and her brother, Jack.
