Norway – Eleanor F. Nelson, 80, a lifelong resident of Stoneham, died Thursday, Nov. 16, at Stephens Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Rumford, the daughter of John and Ethel Adams Files. She attended elementary school in Stoneham and graduated from Norway High School in 1944. She also attended Bliss College of Business in Lewiston.

On Feb. 22, 1950, she married Albert E. Nelson Sr., also of Stoneham.

She worked most of her life in the offices of various businesses including B. E. Cole Shoe Co., Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton, Camp Susan Curtis, Norway Footwear and Evergreen Valley Inn.

She was very involved in her community through various organizations including her membership in the Congregational Church in Stoneham, where she donated countless hours in its fundraising efforts. She was a charter member of the Stoneham/Waterford Lions Club, Daughters of Union Veterans, Oxford County Republican committee, Stoneham planning board, correspondent for the Advertiser Democrat and the Bethel Citizen, North Waterford Friendly Citizens, Stoneham Knight Riders snowmobile club, and a former member of the Kezar Lake Grange 440 in North Lovell.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family who also enjoyed snowmobiling, helping in town affairs and time spent at her camp in Wilsons Mills.

She is survived by her four children, Sharon Berman, and her husband, Howard, of Belmont, Mass., Cheryl Barnard, and her husband, Paul, of Seaford, Va., Albert Nelson Jr., and his wife, Cathy, of Stoneham and Dale Nelson, and his wife, Kitty, of Lovell; a sister, Frances Grant of Stoneham; a sister-in-law, Geneva Tripp of Stoneham; 10 grandchildren, Aisha, Jaffer and Nawal Traish, Joshua, Jenna and Lindsey Barnard, Eric Nelson, and his fiancée, Erin Specht, Troy Nelson, Molly and Matthew Nelson; and a cousin, Wilma Taylor of Norway.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Albert Sr. on Aug. 14; a sister, Doris Files; and two brothers, Donald Files and John Files Jr.
