LEWISTON – Jane L. Dakin, 64, of Main Street in Dixfield, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born on June 23, 1942, in Brunswick, the daughter of Dr. Robert and Dorothy (Mayers) Smith.

She attended the Rumford schools. She married her teenage sweetheart, Donald Dakin Sr., on Aug. 30, 1957, when they began their life journey together.

She worked for Bass Shoe Co., and also as a dietician, cook and resource care provider. She loved snowmobiling and was a member of the Poodunck snowmobile club, where she held the positions of secretary and treasurer. She enjoyed four-wheeling, camping and traveling around the states with her husband Don. She especially loved to fish. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog “Jackie.”

She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Donald Dakin Sr. of Dixfield; sons, Donald Dakin Jr., and significant other, Kayla, and David Dakin, and his wife, Mary; granddaughters, Heather, Tia and Sara; grandsons, little Dave and Jason; and great-grandchildren, Monique and Owen.

She was predeceased by her parents; and stepmother, Barney Smith.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and best friend. She will be sadly missed yet forever in our hearts, mind and soul. Rest peacefully in your next journey, Jane, we love you.

Jane’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Central Maine Medical Center for the special and wonderful care given to her and the spiritual support and encouragement offered by family and friends during her brief illness.
