ORONO (AP) – Chad Kackert’s six-yard touchdown run in overtime Saturday lifted New Hampshire to a 19-13 win over Maine.

Maine’s Bruno Dorismond had Kackert stopped in the backfield, but the freshman broke free and raced down the sideline for the winning score.

The victory earned New Hampshire (8-3, 5-3 Atlantic 10) a berth in the I-AA playoffs and the Brice-Cowell Musket, awarded to the Maine-UNH winner, for the fourth straight season.

Arel Gordon’s 22-yard touchdown catch from Maine’s Ron Whitcomb with 8:08 remaining had allowed Maine to knot the score at 13-13. The scoring toss moved Whitcomb into sole possession of first place in Maine history.

The Black Bears (6-5, 5-3 A-10) held the Wildcats’ explosive offense in check with a ball-control plan that netted 56:04 time of possession to 18:06 for UNH.

New Hampshire quarterback Ricky Santos rushed for a pair of touchdowns in the first half. Maine’s Devin McNeil had field goals of 23 and 25 yards to send the teams into halftime with UNH leading 13-6.
