I live near the Evergreen Cemetery on the Steven’s Mill Road in Auburn and am saddened by the condition of the cemetery. There is a large amount of trees and long grass growing at the front of the cemetery, which effectively blocks the view of the cemetery in the summer time. During the winter, you can catch a glimpse of the cemetery because the leaves are down.
I am not sure if the city is responsible for the mowing and upkeep of the cemetery, but it really should be better taken care of. It would seem that two men with a saw and a grass trimmer could take care of the brush and grass in the front of the cemetery in a matter of three or four hours.
After that, occasional trimming with a grass trimmer would seem to solve the problem. I do think we could do better to honor the people buried there than what is currently being done.
