Good food is more important than ever. It is imperative that people talk about eating right because with the busy schedules most people have, we have forgotten just how important food is.

The most important place people should be talking about food is in the schools. A person’s education shapes him or her in incredibly deep and meaningful ways, and schools would be the perfect arena for sharing healthy eating strategies.

In a world where a Pop Tart and an espresso make a breakfast, someone needs to be reaching out for change. The adult generation seems to be lost forever in its french fries and freezer meals, but it is not too late for the children. It’s time to take responsibility. If the adults don’t teach them, who will?

I would ask all school board members out there to take action; take steps toward creating both lunch and educational programs that will instill healthy eating habits in the current children. There are ways to make it work, and with a little creativity, the next generation could be on the right track to health.

I would encourage everyone – don’t waste another minute. Even small steps are worth taking now.
