NORWAY – John Kendall Brown, 77, of Bethel, died in Norway on Nov. 19.

He was born in Bethel on May 25, 1929, the son of Carl Leslie and Ruth Isabel (Mason) Brown, attended Bethel schools and graduated from Gould Academy in 1947.

He had worked in the publishing business most of his life and was editor of the Bethel Citizen from 1963 to 1986, and had written a column for the Bethel Citizen up until 2004. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, served on the Bethel school board for more than 30 years, and was a selectman in Bethel for many years.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Beth Awalt of Lewiston; three sons, Daryl Robert Brown, and his wife, Debbie, of Old Town, Michael Brown, and his companion, Alice Cooper, of Turner and Eric Brown, and his wife, Ellen, of Turner; a brother, Irving Brown of Bethel; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sons, Neal Brown and Kevin Brown; and four brothers, Donald Seth Brown, Edwin Lesley Brown, Stanley Loren Brown and Robert Mason Brown.
