NORWAY – Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary 82 met Nov. 8 with President Kim Hansen presiding. Barbara Henley, Americanism chairwoman, said she was going to the Guy E. Rowe School to show a video on Veterans Day to second-graders.

The department president’s and District 2 president’s visit to the unit has been canceled until spring. Henley asked if she could purchase booklets for the second-graders at Rowe School on the history of how America was formed. Members agreed. The department is encouraging units to work with schools on the flag and history of America.

The unit will deliver 90 Thanksgiving cards to the Veterans Home in South Paris. Members voted to remember post veterans who are ill at home or in nursing home and to remember unit members at Christmas who are ill or in nursing homes.

Donations were made to the following: $35, Long Creek Youth Center; $25, Salvation Army; $25, Androscoggin Home Health; $25, Christmas for Teens; a donation to a woman with three children who recently lost her home to a fire; a donation to the Buckfield Fire Department in memory of Glen Allen; and $500 to post to help pay for oil.

Marjy Sessions will chair the December birthday party at the Veterans Home. The meeting was preceded by a meatloaf supper and birthday cake and ice cream in celebration of the Auxiliary’s birthday. Supper was prepared by the post members.
