Rumford Girl Scout Troop going out for the troops serving in Iraq

RUMFORD – Rumford area Girl Scout Troop 1520 is helping to deliver a merry Christmas to some of the troops serving in Iraq.

The girls are rounding up donations to send comfort packages to the Army National Guard Field Artillery Unit, stationed in Baghdad. The troop is made up of 184 soldiers, of which 80 are from Maine.

The Scouts have prepared a list of suggested gifts for the soldiers, but donors are not limited to those items. They will also accept cash donations and do the shopping.

Franklin Savings Bank has pledged to pay for shipping expenses, up to $200. Drop any contributions by at Franklin Savings Bank’s Rumford or Mexico branches or at Oxford Federal Credit Union by Friday, Nov. 24.
