This year at Lewiston High School there is a new independent study available for students willing to participate. The topic that this group is studying is the Holocaust. The group meets every Friday after school from 2:30 p.m. to around 4:30 p.m. The teachers that are advising this group are Mr. Sullivan. Mr. LeBlond and Mrs. Lynch.
The study is learning more about the Holocaust through reading history text, biographies, diaries and poetry. After reading a book, they watch the movie of the book. Already the study has read Schindler’s List and watched the movie. Speakers will also be coming to the study to explain in detail parts in the Holocaust. Some of the events that they are hoping to attend are the Brunswick High School performance on Ann Frank and other events on the Holocaust.Students in the Holocaust study are the ones keeping this group going, because of the dedication of the six students involved. They each bring reading and discussion questions to each class so that they will learn the most on the topic. In al, the students stay in the study until the end of the year, they will recieve one credit towards graduation, which will be well deserved because of their dedication.
We would like to thank all the teachers involved with this study and the students working to make the study the best, Rachel Spilecki, Erica Jones, Corey Herrick, Maxwell Stevenson, Stephanie Doucette and Michelle Grover. We all hope the study lasts till the end of the year and many years to come.
