BUCKFIELD – The Zadoc Long Free Library has announced that it has been selected to receive a Books For Children Grant from the Libri Foundation. The 2-to-1 matching grant will provide the library with $1,050 in children’s books.

The books will give a boost to the children’s collection and will help to improve story programs.

The library is raising money to meet the $350 needed for the match. A bake sale and a last chance book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. All books will be $2 a bag.

The library is also selling raffle tickets for a jelly cabinet, made by John Northrup of Streaked Mountain Cabinetry. The cabinet is of eastern white pine and measures 25 3/8″ wide by 55″ tall and is 12 ” deep. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and will be sold until 1:55 p.m. Dec. 2. The drawing will take place at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available at the library or next door at Tilton’s Market. The cabinet can be seen at the library from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Once the books are received, the library will have an open house to introduce the new books to the community. Guests will read some of the books aloud. Those who would like to volunteer to read a book at the open house or would like to make a donation to the library should call 336-2171 and ask for Everett. Any money raised in excess of the $350 for the matching grant will be used for children’s materials.
