The city of Auburn is pleased with the performance of several new sub-compact vehicles and will probably continue to purchase them as replacements for older, gas-guzzling models in some cases, says Purchasing Agent Jude G. Cyr. In conjunction with efforts to reduce energy consumption at various city-owned buildings, Cyr explained, the city has also tried to be conscious of the type of vehicles it purchases. In June, the city traded three vehicles for 1981 Ford Escorts for the city manager building inspector and fire chief, he noted. It was the first year Auburn purchased sub-compacts, and the new cars are averaging about 27 miles per gallon, he said.
