Although Thanksgiving is celebrated all around the nation, it’s a fact that many Americans know little about the holiday which many of our ancestors created. When the English colonists settled in America, they brought with them the celebration of Thanksgiving. However, instead of feasting, their holiday revolved around praying. In the fall of 1621, the pilgrims sat down to feast with their neighboring Native Americans as a way of celebrating their first successful harvest. In 1777, General George Washington set aside a day in December for the nation to celebrate a day of thanksgiving, and then in 1941 President Roosevelt, after a highly confusing, 17 year campaign dealing with the official day of the holiday, declared that Thanksgiving would be the fourth Thursday in November.

So from past to present we continue to give thanks, as we sit around our tables and make an attempt to replicate the beautiful feasts that our ancestors celebrated with. With all said, have an excellent 23 rd all, whether you are traveling or staying put, celebrating or laying low. Stay safe, happy and also important, well-fed.
