AUBURN – George H. Heald, 72, a resident of Auburn died early Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Clover Health Care Facility after a long illness.
He was born in Turner, July 5, 1934, the son of Charles and Dorothy (Dunlap) Heald. He was a 1952 graduate of Litchfield Academy, and was an Air Force veteran who was part of a joint Air Force-Army recovery team in 1960, that recovered the remains of a World War II B-24 flight crew that crashed in the Libyan desert in 1943.
He had been employed in the industrial roofing business for many years and was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include three brothers, Paul of Massachusetts, Richard of Florida and Charles Heald of Maine; two sisters, Ferne Bean of West Paris and Beverly Moody of Augusta; his companion of 28 years, Phyllis Small of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.
