FARMINGTON – A man facing several charges connected to an escape from the Franklin County jail in August pleaded not guilty to those charges Wednesday.
Daniel Jackson, 25, formerly of Jay and Wilton, was indicted by a grand jury Nov. 14 on charges of kidnapping, escape and two counts of terrorizing as well as assault in relation to a separate incident.
Jackson’s court-appointed attorney, John Alsop, entered the not-guilty pleas on all charges with Jackson at his side in front of Justice John McElwee in Franklin County Superior Court.
Jackson’s bail remained the same at $50,000 cash and $100,000 worth of real estate, concurrent with that same bail amount for previous charges.
Alsop also maintained the option to reargue bail.
Jackson has been in Franklin County jail since July after he was arrested on charges of being a fugitive from justice stemming from an escape from a New York police station, and terrorizing in connection with a Wilton incident in which a gun was fired in July inside an apartment in Wilton.
Jackson is also accused of escaping from the Franklin County jail for 12 hours by climbing the razor-topped fence in the recreation yard Aug. 13. His sister, Angela Taylor, 35, of Jay stands accused of helping him escape by driving the getaway vehicle. She has pleaded not guilty to that charge.
Jackson, who has a history of mental illness, is accused of threatening to kill a Jay woman if she did not drive him to a specific place after his escape from the jail, a state prosecutor said previously. He also is accused of terrorizing a Jay man if he didn’t help him, as well.
Police later took Jackson into custody in Farmington Falls.
The assault charge stems from an incident Aug. 4 with another inmate at the jail.
