Ipswich, Mass. – Barbara Isabel (Prain) Bradley, 79, wife of the late John A. Bradley, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 22, in the Caldwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Home.
She was born in Cambridge, Mass. on Feb. 5, 1927, to Ralph Dykes Prain and Sarah Edna (Ivester) Prain. She graduated from Lexington, Mass. High School in 1944, and the University of New Hampshire in 1948.
After graduation, she worked as a private secretary to a vice president of the Employers Group Insurance Companies in Boston. She met her husband-to-be after his return from the Korean War. They married in 1954.
They lived in South Chelmsford, Mass., and Mont Vernon, N.H., before moving to East Monmouth. She furthered her education at the University of Maine at the Augusta campus, earning an elementary teaching certificate. She taught for five years in Maine before her husband was transferred back to Massachusetts in 1971, when they settled in Ipswich.
She taught kindergarten in Beverly, Mass., for 20 years, retiring in 1992. After retiring from teaching, she settled into the varied and friendly life of Ipswich Seniors – the famous “Center Club.” She had her own special bridge. Life was good!
She is survived by her three children and two granddaughters, Pamela J. Merry of North Andover, Mass., David M. Bradley of Somerville, Mass. and John B. Bradley, and his wife, MaryJane (Sprague) Bradley, of Ashburnham, Mass. and their daughters, Megan of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Maeve, also of Ashburnham.
