FARMINGTON – Heirlooms of Tomorrow has announce Joyce Dubay of New Vineyard as the December Artist of the Month. A welcome reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. The public is invited.

Dubay is an artist of several mediums, using whatever is necessary to capture the effect of the painting at hand.

She said, “It all started with a coloring book and a box of crayons at a very young age. People remarked that I did a good job at my style of coloring, which I put more into than most children, not realizing until years later what they meant.

“I realize now that it was because I layered my crayon colors to get the effect I wanted, whether it was adding light and shadow, or adding depth to the picture. I colored the way I saw things.”

Dubay said, “To learn to paint, you first must learn to see. I paint as I see my subjects, always striving for realism and always learning along the way. I enjoy painting on location because I can see so much more information than a photo will show me, even though for many of my paintings I have to rely on photos. I have been painting in oils for over 40 years, half of those in watercolors. Many times, I combine my mediums together such as watercolors and colored pencils, and sometime add ink as well. My subjects are many.”

Dubay has received many awards and recognition over the years. She shares her knowledge with her students and works from her home studio, Mt’n View Studio, and teaches adult education classes at Mt. Blue High School. She is a founding member of Upcountry Artist.

Heirlooms of Tomorrow is located at 710 Wilton Road. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
