NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) – New Britain police have been cleared of any wrondgoing in the death of a drug user who died after he was hit with a stun gun this summer while running from police.
New Britain State’s Attorney Scott Murphy determined earlier this week there was no criminal conduct by police the night Jesus Negron died. The state medical examiner in September determined Negron died of a cocaine overdose.
Negron was spotted on July 11 stabbing a car with a pitchfork on Route 9 and then was seen walking along a city street. When police approached him he jumped through the window of a printing company, the jumped back out and tried to run away. Police said he ignored several commands to stop and was shot with the Taser. He collapsed while being handcuffed.
Tasers deliver a 50,000-volt jolt through two barbed darts that can penetrate clothing.
