AUBURN – Fernand J. Gravel, 72, of Lewiston, died Thursday evening, Nov. 23, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

He was born in Lewiston on June 24, 1934, the son of Phillippe and Simonne (Ouellette) Gravel. He attended schools in Lewiston.

He was a U.S. Marine veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. Following his service to his country, he worked in the local shoe industry, including Falcon Shoe for more than 30 years and later L & A Shoe, where he retired.

He was a longtime member of Holy Family Church. Fern enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseshoes and an occasional card game.

He is survived by his three children, Anthony Gravel and his wife, Rachel, of Auburn, Denise Dudek and her husband, Chet, of Florida, and Christine Gravel of Lewiston; his grandson, Tyson Ouellette of Florida; his sister, Claudette Lemay of Lewiston; and by several nephews.
