BIDDEFORD (AP) – A four-alarm fire heavily damaged a three-story building in the downtown area Saturday.

Crews from Saco, Old Orchard Beach and Kennebunk joined Biddeford firefighters in battling the blaze for several hours before bringing it under control. Initial reports indicated that one firefighter was injured, but there was no immediate word on his condition.

The fire was discovered in the late morning at the Mahaney Building at Alfred and Jefferson streets. The building contained several businesses, including law offices, an accounting firm and a trophy shop.
