LEWISTON – Flore “Flo” M. Berube, of 16 Homefield St., Lewiston, died peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, Nov. 25, at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.
She was born in Taunton, Mass., on May 16, 1918, the daughter and last surviving of children born to Etienne L., and Hectorine E. (Denis) Berube. Her family moved to Lewiston and settled in the Little Canada neighborhood when she was only 6 months old. She received her education in local schools and started working in the shoe industry at the age of 16. Her working career spanned 51 years from her first job at Lund and Sweet (now known as the Barn) on Minot Avenue in Auburn and at numerous other shoe factories, with retirement from Arno Moccasin in Lewiston. She was a diligent and skillful skiver who taught numerous people the trade throughout her working years.
Flo was generous and compassionate, and a servant to many. Having been blessed with good health most of her life, she had a great capacity to work, be a mother, a grandmother, great-grandmother and rendered service to many in need. Above all, she was totally devoted to her family whom she loved very much. May God grant her rest and peace now that her earthly journey is completed.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna J. Favreau and her husband, Rick; two grandsons, Jason R. Favreau of Westbrook, and Derrick A Favreau and his partner, Alayna Gross, of Auburn; a great-grandson, Julian A Favreau of Auburn; a sister-in-law, Stella Brodeur and her husband, Robert, of Thompson Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Irene Pinard, Aurore Thompson, Lucienne Martel, Germaine Nadeau and Rina Flaugher; and brothers, Henry, Arthur, Albert and Leo.
The family wishes to thank all those who gave her loving care during her stay at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion 2E and 4E, and to Dr. Singh for his attentiveness and concern during her ailment.
