AUBURN – Helen Wessenger Snowe, 80, of Taylor Pond in Auburn, died Thursday morning, Nov. 23, after a brave battle with cancer.
She was born in Lewiston on Feb. 13, 1926, the daughter of Martha Haynes Wessenger and Oscar Wessenger. Raised in Lewiston, she graduated from Lewiston High School in 1943 and attended Auburn School of Commerce.
She married Richard L. Snowe in 1949, settling in Auburn to raise a family.
Helen was a generous, compassionate and loving soul, living her faith fully and devotedly. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. Of the many charities she benefactored, her longtime commitment to the Paralyzed Veterans of America was the most inspiring example of her humility and her appreciation for the efforts and sacrifices of others.
Her commitment to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society demonstrated her love and compassion for all of God’s creatures. She remains an inspiring example of the limitless depth of human love. God has blessed our family with her. She will be so very missed by those who know her and love her.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Snowe, of Auburn; two sons, Robert L. Snowe of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Thomas R. Snowe and wife, Pamela, of Auburn; two granddaughters, Alexandra Snowe and Caroline Snowe; two angels on earth, Lillian and Cappy Coombs of Auburn; more cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Our family wishes to sincerely thank all those beautiful people at Central Maine Medical Center and the Hospice House who gave such loving care to Helen and support to us! God bless you all!
