BARRE, Vt. (AP) – A man paced in front of a sporting goods store for 45 minutes before smashing a window, entering and stealing five handguns early Sunday, police said.
Police said they responded to an alarm at R&L Archery on Smith Street that was triggered when the window was broken, but that the man was able to scoop up the guns and flee before they arrived.
The store’s recently upgraded security system got video footage and several photographs, and police were able to provide a description.
The perpetrator was described as a white mail, between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet tall, wearing a white T-shirt with the words “South Pole” on it over a dark, hooded sweat shirt. He was also wearing a baseball cap and a backpack.
Police from Barre and Barre Town were joined at the scene by a team from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms.
Police asked anyone with pertinent information to contact city Detective Brent Curtis at 476-6613.
