BUCKFIELD – France in the 14th century captured the interest of writer David Compton as a setting for his new novel “Catalyst,” which picks up where his first historical fantasy, “Nexus” leaves off. Compton says his love of France and the French language caused him to use the setting.
The story is based on historical facts and events, and a number of real people are mentioned, Compton said. “This is the period in the history of France where the Black Plague and the Hundred Years’ War take place. The story is placed in this background of political turmoil. The dark forces make a play for power, but the hero stands up to fight these forces,” he said.
Though the story takes place mostly in France, it takes a detour into 16th century America.
Compton taught at Hebron Academy until retiring in 2001. His wife, Janet, is also a retired school teacher. They live in a log cabin in Buckfield with two active and friendly cats.
Compton’s first published novel, “A Filthy Business” is fiction and draws on his experiences in the world of Army intelligence in Germany.
Writing is a driving force for Compton, who is already working on a fifth book with his cancer massage therapist. This will be a mystery about people buying an old home in Maine to renovate.
His new book is available from his Web site, www.david-compton.com, or from publisher’s Web site: http://booklocker.com/books/2675.html. It will soon be available on amazon.com.
