Credit union donates coats for families

AUBURN – Members and staff of Maine Family Federal Credit Union donated four carloads of coats to Coats for Kids, a Maine coat drive reaching from Bangor to Portland. Members donated the coats during the credit union’s annual Family Festival and at its Lewiston and Auburn offices in October and November.

“Our members and staff cleaned out closets and donated snow pants to infant coats in the boxes in our lobbies,” said Debra Trautman, vice president of marketing. “We see a lot of families trying to make ends meet each holiday season. Helping families have warmth this winter is very important for our community.”

The credit union also partnered with members who belong to Maine Event Cheering to support the eighth annual Coats for Kids Drive, coordinated through WCSH6 and several Maine businesses.

More than 350 coats will be delivered to Shaw’s Supermarket in Auburn on Saturday, Dec. 2, Coats for Kids Day. In 2005 Coats for Kids generated more than 45,000 coats statewide.

Maine Family Federal Credit Union is an $83 million asset credit union with nearly 18,000 members. Founded in 1938, the credit union has offices at 555 Sabattus St. in Lewiston and 831 Minot Ave. in Auburn. Its field of membership includes any person who lives, works, worships or attends school in Androscoggin County.
