Middle school honors veterans

HEBRON – Hebron Academy Middle School honored veterans at a recent open house. The program consisted of the students leading the group of close to 20 visiting students and their families in the song, “This is My Song,” sung to the tune of “Finlandia,” a song of peace written by Lloyd Stone in 1934.

Members of the sixth grade gave a presentation on the origins of Veterans Day; the seventh grade created a flag of stars commemorating members of the extended Hebron Academy family who served in the armed forces; and the eighth grade gave a presentation on Iwo Jima.

Hebron Academy’s director of maintenance and father of two middle school students, 1st Sgt. (Ret.) Michael Hughes, was the speaker. He reminded all that there are stories behind every veteran’s “salad,” the rows of pins that decorate each service member’s uniform.
