CARSON CITY, Nev. – Kathryn “Kitty” Marsh, 84, formerly of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Nov. 3, at her home in Carson City, Nev.
She was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Amsterdam, N.Y., to Ralph and Elsie Hallenbeck. She graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1939 and Mount Holyoke College in 1944. Kitty met her husband Jack while working as an assistant director of the YWCA in Waterbury, Conn. They moved to Maine to start their 61-year marriage.
In addition to raising their three children while living in North Monmouth, she ran the town’s small library and volunteered whenever a need arose.
The family moved to Auburn in 1965, and she became the librarian of Lewiston High School, where she was affectionately known as “Mrs. Books,” until she retired in 1983.
She and Jack boldly went west to be closer to their children. There, she enjoyed the Sierra Nevada Mountains, relished working in her garden, loved being a part of her grandchildren’s lives and was especially proud of her 1-meter springboard champion diving skills at age 81.
She always enjoyed life and felt blessed with all the adventures she had. Her passion was sports, all sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and the Celtics.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; daughter, Karen Reynolds of Sparks, Nev.; son, Paul, and his wife, Maria, of Fallon, Nev.; son, Andy, and his wife, Anna, of Minot; five grandchildren, Jennifer Reynolds, Stefanie Reynolds, Kendall Marsh, Charlie Marsh and Veronica Marsh; a brother, Ralph Hallenbeck of Sanora, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Ruth Kalb of New York City and Jane Marsh of Plainville, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
