Student of the month selected; two others win oratorical contest

MECHANIC FALLS – Nicole Cary, an eighth-grader at Elm Street School, was named Student of the Month for October by the Tri-Town Optimists of Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland.

Cary was described by her teachers as “a model student” and “a positive role model for her peers and the younger students at Elm Street School.”

Citing teacher comments, Principal Mary Martin said she is “a caring student who treats her peers with respect, does her best work and actively participates in school opportunities.”

Also honored at a recent meeting of the local chapter were Rachel Sands of Poland, who won first place in the Optimist District Oratorical Contest, and Michaela Chasse of Mechanic Falls, who won third place.
