AUGUSTA (AP) – A Norridgewock man accused of trying to abduct an 8-year-old girl from the Wal-Mart in Waterville last June died Wednesday, one week after he attempted suicide at the Kennebec County Jail, officials said.

Richard Decca, 57, died at Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he had been in a coma.

He had tried to hang himself with a bedsheet Nov. 22, officials said, but deputies stopped him and performed CPR.

Decca was being held on $500,000 bail after his arrest outside the Wal-Mart. The day before the incident, he had been freed on $300 bail in a child-sex case involving a 1-year-old girl.

While at the Jail, Decca was accused of offering $10,000 to another inmate and later to an undercover agent to arrange the murders of his wife and son.
