I would like to address a letter by William Fessenden of Sabattus “That’s what’s ailing me” (Nov 21). The letter was humorous at best, but humor has no place in the fact that all Mainers lost when the governor was re-elected and the Taxpayer Bill of Rights was defeated.
Who was against TABOR? All the unions: teachers, municipal, fire, police and the state. Why? TABOR would have meant no more business as usual. It would have meant many would no longer do nothing, and get paid well for it. No state employee has the fire most of us need to keep our non-union job.
As for our governor, what has he done to deserve four more years? He started Dirigo – what a plan. Who’s paying for it, when a plan based on a proven success from New Hampshire was crushed by our governor? He doesn’t care about the disabled; he proved that by cutting MaineCare, the one thing to help disabled Mainers by getting the drugs and treatment they need. He has cut spending on road improvements. So what was great about his re-election? The math is clear: 66 percent of Mainers voted against him. Try to find humor in that.
We are being buried in Augusta apathy, to the plight of Maine’s middle-class and disabled men and women, by yes men and spineless crybabies.
I see no humor at all in it.
Steven Reed, Sabattus
