NORWAY – Richard E. Gurney, 67, of Megquirer Hill Road, West Poland died Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Lewiston, April 1, 1939, the son of Irwin and Fern Plummer Gurney. He attended schools in Poland and Mechanic Falls before joining the Army. He married Barbara Malier on Aug. 24, 1963. He worked at A.C. Lawrence Leather in South Paris before his 32 years of managing Fernald Stock Farm in West Poland. His interests included harness racing and the Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara; a sister and her husband, Faye and Dick Follette of Leesburg, Fla.; two sons, Irwin, and his wife, Jennifer, of Leeds and Chris, and his wife, Karen, of Minot; seven grandchildren, Josh Clifford, Ian Gurney, Amanda Hinkley, Stephen, Brittany, Sydney and Brayden Gurney; a great-granddaughter, Shaelyn Clifford; and an aunt, Jeannette Ireland, and her husband, Ted, of Poland.

Family was especially important to Richard. He spent many happy hours with his friends, wife, children and many grandchildren. He was a very special man to all of them and will be greatly missed.
