JAY- The AMVETS hosted its fourth annual Christmas Party on Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m. at the AMVETS hall in Jay.

Admission proceeds, money made from game tickets, and bake sale proceeds will go into the AMVETS’ Child Welfare Fund, said Sue Morris, a member of the AMVETS Ladies’ Auxiliary. Sue was in charge of organizing the food that was donated for the party and bake sale.

“It gets better every year. The attendance has doubled from last year. The bake sale made a big difference,” she said. Laurie Gray, also a member of the AMVETS ladies auxiliary, said,

“Last year we made $375.” And with food still being sold Saturday afternoon, the amount raised was “$593.50 and growing,” said Penny Robbins of the AMVETS. There were about 25 volunteers from area towns and schools, including Laurie’s two sons, Corey and Chris Gray.

Games that partygoers participated in included bingo, baseball, golf, bean bag toss, fishing, duck pond, and the most popular – cake walk. Face -painting was available, as well as a balloon toss.

At 1 p.m. Santa arrived and the children lined up to tell him what they wanted for Christmas. Among the items requested were Bratz dolls, remote -control trucks, and a real, live horse. One unidentified boy said to Santa, “I dunno, I just like everything.”
